Scout (Jean Louise Finch) is the narrator and main character who begins her story at almost six years old. A rebellious tomboy, Scout has a fierce disposition toward any who challenge her, but at heart she believes in the goodness of people. Scout reacts to the terrible events of the book without losing hope in humanity.
Scout is the main character of the novel who tells the story from a child's perspective. She is an innocent young girl who could be classified as a "tom boy" as she plays outside with her brother and friend Dill rather than cooking inside and wearing dresses like girls were expected to.
