What is your opinion of Atticus' reaction when Bob Ewell cursed him out and spit in his face? What would you have done in Atticus' place?

Atticus is a fictional hero of mine. He is strong willed and honest in his convictions. He understands human nature from an objective and enlightened perspective. So when Bob spits in his face, Atticus understands how humiliated Bob is and, more importantly, welcomes the abuse. He welcomes it because he knows it has spared the Ewell kids some pain, better old Ewell takes his frustrations out on him that his kids.
