Atticus' examination of Mayella is professional, respectful, and objective. He is kind and courteous at all times, even when insulted.

Mr. Gilmer's examination of Tom Robinson is completely different. He is disrespectful of Tom and demeans him at every turn. He leads Tom and attempts to trap him into saying something that will further alienate the jury, as well as the audience in the courtroom.
