What does the atmosphere in Maycomb at the beginning of the trial reveal about human nature?

The atmosphere illustrates the way people can make a celebration out of anything. People are innately curious and often find reasons to congregate and make even the most somber of events into a party. This atmosphere point to the racism that is prevalent in Maycomb.... the fact that Tom Robinson, as a black man, is already seen as guilty. The people are simply waiting for his conviction.
