What does Atticus mean?

Atticus States " we all know that all men are not created equal in the sense that some people would have us believe, What does he mean?

In context, Atticus is referring to the fact that although all men are created equal in the eyes of the law, that equality is not present in all areas of life, namely; ability, opportunity, and social status. As a result, in his closing statement, Atticus wants to make clear that people shouldn't be judged or stereotyped, but rather see in terms of their character and actions.
