Francis definitely takes note of the things he hears in his home, but he also lacks the tact to keep his mouth closed. His comments about Atticus are cruel... they don't just make Scout angry and protective.... they hurt her. None-the-less, when Scout goes after Francis we learn that he isn't as tough as he is loud.
