Miss Maudie is referring to the fact that Atticus Finch won't win the trial for Tom Robinson. Atticus, however, is "the only man in these parts who can keep a jury out so long in a case like that..." Miss. Mudie thinks that at least people might be starting to consider a more enlightened point of view.
