To Kill A Mockingbird- In what chapter does Judge Taylor give Atticus the assignment of defending Tom Robinson?

Judge Taylor never asks Atticus to take the case in the novel. Their discussion is, however, mentioned after the fact in Chapter Nine.

"Before I'm through, I intend to jar the jury a bit--I think we'll have a reasonable chance on appeal, though... I'd hoped to get through life without a case of this kind, but John Taylor pointed at me and said, 'You're it.' "
