Why is Atticus arguing with Heck Tate? What is his perception of the events that transpired that night?
Atticu argues with Heck Tate because he believes that Jem is responsible for Ewell's death. He is trying to uphold the law by demanding that Jem be brought to trial for the crime of murdering Mr. Ewell, not realizing that the sheriff is trying to protect Boo.
