What is the genre? And for an external conflict of man vs. society, for the trial, whould it be Atticus verse Alabama State; or Tom vs. Alabama State?

To Kill a Mockingbird is a fiction novel. As for the second part of your question, the conflict would technically be seen as the State of Alabama against Tom Robinson. None-the-less, we understand that without Atticus, Tom wouldn't have had a chance...... thus, I'd say Atticus against the State of Alabama.
