To Kill a Mockingbird

The way Atticus walks...

The way Atticus walks in front of the jail house (Chapter 30) is described as very slow, but later in the chapter, he walks across the porch with his "youthful step" and how it had returned. What was this change in him, and why did the author even bother to mention it?

I think Atticus just needed time to recover from the bitter disappointment from the trial and reconcile that small changes had happened in Maycomb because of his efforts.

okay, thanks for the help!
