Correct, Tom Robinson tried to escape the courtroom because he didn't want to deal with anybody lynching him. Imagine yourself in that situation. For example, a man or a group of men tried to steal a precious diamond from a museum. The sirens went off, the police came, but the robbers escaped before the police could find the crooks. That situation with the men and Tom Robinson is like a clue.

Tom was still found guilty for the raping of Bob Ewell's daughter Mayella. But the person who should really be in jail, is Bob Ewell. Judge Taylor convicted the courtroom that Bob Ewell raped his daughter. Bob Ewell is just trying to trick everybody and making it look like Tom did but Tom did nothing.

Tom was shot when he tried to escape the courtroom. But they killed Tom for a reason. Tom isn't a white citizen. Tom is a completely black man. So they shot him.
