Scout says that "Dill Harris could tell the biggest lies she ever heard." Why might Dill have told such lies?

Dill told lies so that no one would know the truth. He didn't have a real home... his parents sent him off so they could do their own thing.... he didn't want people to know his circumstances, and he wanted his life to appear happy, fun, and exciting.
