In Chapter one we learn that Maycomb is a mall Southern town in Alabama. There are few secrets in this old small town, "Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it". The town is segregated by both colour and, to an extent, socio-economic class. Atticus is a Lawyer who is bringing his two children up. Their mother has dies (we find out later) and Atticus "was related by blood or marriage to nearly every family in the town." WE learn about Scout through the voice of her narration. She is around 6 years old and her brother Jem is 10.

Please ask your questions separately.
