Miss Maudi tells Jem and Scout that the people of Maycomb are the safest people in the world and are "rarely called on to be Christians." What does she mean by this ?

I think she is alluding to the idea that most people in Maycomb don't have to make moral decisions that mean sacrifice and empathy. Thankfully she adds that they have Atticus to stand up for what is right.
