There are quite a few "outsiders" in the book. Certainly Boo Radley is one . He is the lone hermit that is misunderstood by most of the town. He is the subject of tall tales and childish ghost stories.

Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time.

Ironically it turns out that Boo in in fact a gentle soul.

Scout is also an outsider by virtue of her keen intellect, tom-boy attitude, and her strong moral sensibilities. At such a young age she stands out from other kids and adults. I really like her quote on her passion for reading:

Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.
