Atticus helped save Miss. Maudie's things from the fire.

I saw Atticus carrying Miss Maudie’s heavy oak rocking chair, and thought it sensible of him to save what she valued most.

Atticus shot the rabid dog.

Atticus defended Tom Robinson regardless of town opinion.

Atticus explains his reasons for defending Tom Robinson to his children.... fully and truthfully. This would be a difficult concept to discuss with children and make them undertsnad.

I would like to say thank you to Jill D

I also would appreciate it if you could give me the chapter to when Atticus explains his reasons for defending Tom to his children.
