To Kill a Mockingbird

how does the other teacher referred to change the class' behavior with two senctences? and why does it work?

the other kids turn to Schout to fill Miss Caroline in. This later gets Scout in trouble. Later, Scouth hints that the whole idea behind school was that the State of Alabame meant for her to be tested with twelve years of uniterrupted boredom.

Miss, Blount walks into Scout's class and says, "If I hear another sound from this room I'll burn everyone in it. Miss. Caroline, the sixth grade cannot concentrate on Pyramids for all this racket." Of course Blount will not burn the students but it does show the kind of discipline that the kids understand. Miss. Caroline comes from a politically correct, for the time, education philosophy. These are farm kids used to veiled threats as discipline rather than progressive behaviour modification.
