How does Reverend Sykes help the children? Why do you think he does this?

Rev. Sykes is happy to have the Finch children at his church. He knows Calpurnia is close to them. He also considers Atticus an upstanding man and a friend to the black community. Rev. Sykes gives the utmost respect to Scout and Jem,

"We were 'specially glad to have you all here," said Reverend Sykes.  "This church has no better friend than your daddy." (ch 12)
