Atticus is always kind to Mrs. Dubose. He treats her like a respectable Southern lady,

When the three of us came by her house, Atticus would sweep off his hat, wave gallantly to her and say, "Good evening Mrs. Dubose! You look like a picture this evening."

Mrs. Dubose loves this attention and acts accordingly. She is polite, almost bashful in front of Atticus.
