how does mr dilmers treatment of tom contrast with atticuss treatment of mayella in the previous chapter

Atticus' questioning of Mayella was respectful. He treated her with kid gloves..... he asked for the truth and didn't use lies to coerce her testimony. Mr. Gilmer, on the other hand, deliberately provoked Tom. He didn't "ask", he "accused".
