If I think of a gentleman, the dictionary in my head shows Atticus. I'm not kidding. Atticus, for me, is one of the most heroic and decent figures in literature. Atticus is able to see past the petty fear, ignorance, stereotypes and he does the right thing. He is civil to the most vile people because he understands them better than they understand themselves. Jem certainly has it right!
