At recess, Jem listens to Scout's complaints and tries to reassure her, explaining that Miss Caroline is introducing a new teaching technique which he calls the Dewey Decimal System. The system is a technique for classifying library material. I think a parallel might be the very clinical way people classify each other in Maycomb (race, social class, money....)
