The court in Maycomb found Tom guilty yet every single person in that courtroom knew, in their heart, that Tom was innocent. Atticus proved without a shred of doubt the utter impossibility that Tom Robinson committed that crime. On the surface the all white jury conformed to generations of hatred but in their hearts, they knew the truth.
