Dolphus Raymond has opted out of white society. He has married a coloured woman and spends his time in the company of coloured people. He likes people to think that he is a drunk of sorts by drinking out of a paper bag. It is really only Coke though.

Dolphous raymond differs because yes he married a coloured woman and has coloured children and the people of maycomb judje him for that. Basically dolphus raymond uses the bag of coke as beer to give people a reason to talk, meaning they can assume how and why he married a coloured woman and has coloured children. If he just admitted to not caring about what people think about race then he would be in the same position as atticus. essentially i believe he does this so that he is not put in the same position as atticus.
