Other Maycomb residents, like the Cunninghams, may be poor but are also proud and work hard. The Ewells merely look for handouts and prefer to be lazy. The Ewells, mainly Bob Ewell, are nasty to their fellow citizens.Mr. Ewell can hunt out of season because everyone knows he spends his relief checks on whiskey and his children won't eat if he doesn't hunt.
