THe word "proper" is a very subjective term. I thing Atticus might re-phrase that. He would want Scout to behave like a proper human being. This is exactly what Scout does. Sure she goes through the angst of growing up but, like her father, she feels for other people and shares a sense of what it means to be a human being. That is about as proper as a person can get!
