To Kill a Mockingbird

Dialectical Journal (Dialogue with the text) What “full meaning” hits Scout? She is connecting the mob scene with the rabid dog scene--Why? And why do you think she starts to cry?

“I was very tired, and was drifting into sleep when the memory of Atticus calmly folding his newspaper and pushing back his hat became Atticus standing in the middle of an empty waiting street, pushing up his glasses. The full meaning of the night’s events hit me and I began to crying”(Lee 208).

The mob were like a pack of rabid dogs: crazy with hate and racism. There was no sense in wanting to lynch Tom Robinson and harming a friend and neighbour, Atticus, to do it.
