There are a few instances of "crises" in these chapters but I would say the biggest one would be the burning of Mrs. Maudie's house. The night following the snowfall is bitterly cold. Scout wakes up in the middle of the night with Atticus over her telling her she must get up and go outside. Miss Maudie's house is on fire. Three fire trucks are trying to put out the flames, but they are hampered by the cold, and one of the hoses bursts.
