Both novels show the abominable treatment of African Americans during a previous time in American history. In one sense The Help has a little more hope; the story of the maids is told and helps to raise awareness. However, individuals did little about changing their individual behavior. To Kill a Mockingbird shows one man who has the courage to stand up against a kind of mob mentality even while putting himself at risk. The people who stand for what is right are admirable in both novels.
