Prejudice doesn't really come into play in the first six chapters of the novel. Lee, however, does focus on social class and the economic differences prortrayed in Maycomb's social hierarchy. We're introduced to poverty stricken familes like the Cunninghams and Ewells, historical hierarchy in terms of Simon Finch's establishment of Finch's landing and the fact he was a slave owner, and Miss Caroline's preconceived notions about education, her students, and the world in general.... a world far different than the one she grew up in.
