They really don't have a relationship. Bob confronts Atticus early on when Atticus decides to defend Tom Robinson in court. He calls Atticus bad things. Atticus understands Bob. Bob doesn't understand Atticus or himself. Atticus thinks Bob is a coward. Bob is just blinded by his hate and fears, he projects these on Atticus. By the end Atticus is surprised just how low Bob is when he attacks Scout and Jem.
