At the end of the trial, why does Reverend Sykes tell Scout to “stand up”? What effect does this line have on the reader? Why do you think the author focuses the reader’s gaze on Atticus and not on Tom Robinson?

The blacks at the court respect Atticus. Even though Atticus lost the trial, they respect the superhuman effort he put into the case. They respect Atticus's wisdom and sensitivity. Your second question depends on your opinion rather than mine. I remember reading this line as a young teenager and I still remember it to this day.
