To Kill a Mockingbird

At the beginning of the chapter, Scout is critical of Atticus because he seems old and doesn’t do anything that she deems impressive. By the end of the chapter, her opinion has changed. Why? (Ch 10)

Atticus shoots Tim Johnson, the rabid dog. Atticus turns out to be an expert shot with a rifle. Jem and Scout are so surprised. Mr. Tate tells them that they used to call Atticus "one-shot Finch." Besides being an academic, Scout and Jem see that their dad is good at "masculine" things like shooting.
