Mr. Dolphus Raymond allows people to believe that he is something he is not, merely, to keep the residents of Maycomb from poking into his business. He would rather have them believe he is a drunk than have to explain his relationship with his wife and the black community. As a result, the people of Maycomb explain away the things they don't approve of by blaming it on his love for liquor. In reality, Mr. Dolphus Raymond does not drink.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Mr Dolphus Raymond is a wealthy white man, living with the coloured (negroe) community. Although, doing what he desires is a very reputable aspect, i dont particularly respect him because the actions he uses to carry this out, not only affects his reputation, but that of his mixed children as well.
