why are the events in this story still relevant for today?

Man against nature will always be a relevant subject. The answers I gave in the preceding question were tools; we think we're prepared, but what if they don't work? what if they fall in the creek and become useless? Everywhere you look, disasters of nature have devastating effects, even in the most civilized of places. Think Hurricane Katrina..... who would have thought that could have happened in our country.
