This is more like an essay response but I can give you some general ideas. Poe was a gothic writer who wrote story's primarily in more urban settings from London. Poe's characters were frequently mentally unstable and his narrative pointed to the sensational and the macabre. London was a writer who was part of the naturalist genre of writing. His writings pointed to the majesty of nature over man. His characters were often from the animal point of view imbued with just enough human personality characteristics to allow the reader to relate to them.
