How does the title relate to the story?

The story revolves around the "newcomer" and his trip through the freezing Yukon. The main conflict surrounds the man's hesitance to make camp and build a life saving fire. He wants to get to his destination not heeding the nature's warnings. By the time he decides to make camp he can no longer build a fire. He is too cold. The fire represents life and mans' main ally in nature's wild cold.
