How does the conflict intensify as the plot devolps? how is the conflict resolved?

As the man (he's kind of an idiot) forges forward, we wonder when he will stop and make camp that will save his life. The dog all but plays charades to try and tip this guy off that he is being stupid. We feel the conflict between this guy and all things natural, including the dog. The conflict intensifies as we see the man making more and more errors until his chances run out.
