frostbite

why does'nt the man worry about the cold? What is alarming about his reaction to frostbite?

For all the man's survival skills, London notes that he "lacks imagination." This means he he does not consider what the cold can do to him. He only sees -50 degrees as cold but little else. He sees frostbite as just a little pain and, at worst, the loss of a few toes. This is alarming!
