Did you feel sympathy for the main character at the end of the story? Why or why not?

Over the course of the story, it's difficult to have sympathy for the man. He's prideful, foolish, and arrogant. None-the-less, he was a living, moving being..... albeit, a fictional being. Thus, it's difficult not to feel sorry for him.... his pride and arrogance led to his refusal of listening to advice from those more experienced, and because of that..... he died.
