    What kind of relationship do the man and dog have? How does it impact events?

    Strong answers will discuss the lack of connection between the two. As the narrator says, there was no intimacy. As a result, and because the man did not read into things anyway, he also failed to read the animals responses to the cold as signs of danger. The dog was merely looking out for itself, and did not make efforts to communicate with the man. Answers should reference instances of distance between the two.
