I personally enjoyed the descriptions of the landscapes, and the descriptions of the towns and villages, as well as the historical information the narrator added during the journey down the Thames.
My favorite character would be Montmorency. He's funny, mischievious, stubbourn, and even helpful (at times). J.'s stories about Montmorency add humor. Montmorency is such a great character that he seems almost human.
