This is a fictional story about three men who take a boat trip (along with a dog) down the River Thames. Of the three men, 'J' is the narrator, and he is accompanied by his his friends George and William.

One night, the men are together, during a night of drink and conversation they all decide they're sick..... and they all agree their illnesses are caused by working too hard. The prescription for this overwork is an extended holiday, which they conclude will be a boat trip down the river (or up, I'm not sure).

The next Saturday J and William take off; George will meet up with them when he finishes with work. Thus begins a trip of missed trains and funny happenings. Music, comaraderie and banjo playing.

Their trip is filled with anecdotes about the weather, home repair, and the landscapes they pass along the way. The story is a guidebook filled with humor.
