i have a question from chapter 5

who had been instructed by the narrator to woke them up at 6.30 in the morning?

It was actually Jerome, the narrator, who wanted to wake up at 6:00am and told Harris to wake him up. Both men overslept:

I woke Harris, and told him. He said:

“I thought you wanted to get up at six?”

“So I did,” I answered; “why didn’t you wake me?”

“How could I wake you, when you didn’t wake me?” he retorted.
