Here is an answer I poted previously for the same question;
Harris runs a full circle in characteristics; he is rather funny, often quiet(though loud, obnoxious, and rude when angry), and also prone to be a little more than lazy. He's one of those people that simply waits for the next guy to get something done rather than do it himself. Harris also likes to drink (drinking makes him short tempered), and he can be boastful.
Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)
Harris does not want to sleep outside, he is not poetic. He was fond of drinks and food and he love to take responsibilities but later he put on others . He don't want work but uncle Podger like to work. His boastful nature always made him in trouble . He was not a good cook , frank, outspoken boy .He love to dress in loud colours and a terrible singer.
from the book "The Three Man in a Boat"
* a practical young man, who could not appreciate romanticism in the world around him.
* fond of drinking and eating; not too fond of working hard.
* not much imagination and was more aggressive than the other two.

* not much aesthetic sense and dressed in loud colors like orange and yellow, which did not suit him.
*a terrible singer and could never remember the words to a song.
*thought he could cook well, but as the incident with the eggs showed, he was not a good cook either.

from the book three men in a boat
William Samuel Harris, the third of the "three men" in the title of the book. Harris is a young single man with a fondness for drink. J. jokes that no matter where they go lll, Harris always seems to know a good pub nearby and is constantly encouraging his friends to accompany him. Harris gets fairly drunk one night while george and J. have gone of to a nearby town and imagines he is being attacked by swan.
Harris sometimes loses his temper, at which point his friends let him rave until he settles down. Harris imagines that he is an entertaining singer of comic songs, but usually forgets what song he is singing, forgets the words, and loses his temper with the piano player.
