In Chapter Four, Jerome tells a long story about the time a friend of his asked him to transport cheese. For all intents and purposes, the cheese was "stinky" cheese, the kind most of us have heard of but never been exposed to. While traveling with the cheese by train, all the other passengers quickly exited his train car. His friend's wife was appalled when Jerome delivered the cheese and said she wouldn't stay in the house as long as it was there. In order to rid himself of the cheese, Jerome ended up having to bury it along the coast. Unfortunately, the "stink" lingered.
