Why does Okonkwo resent having to take care of his mother and sisters?

This is because women are considered weak and liabilities. Women, especially his sisters, should be taken care of by other men. Okonkwo thinks the females in his family under his roof makes him look weak. Okonkwo is all about the manliness and external validation.
