Why did Uchendu talk to Okonkwo about the Mother Supreme?

Uchendu wanted Okonkwo to understand that others had faced far worse in their lives, and that his job was to reinforce the family with encouragement and comfort. For Okonkwo to abide in his mother's homeland unaccepting of the comfort it had to offer would displease the Igbo gods.
