The Igbo are an agricultural society that is dependent on what they grow. It makes sense that their gods are manifestations of the nature that they depend on. They, for example, worship the goddess of the earth. They are careful to treat the earth with respect because they fear bad yam crops would mean starvation. They also are aware of their ancestors having divine properties.
